Community cafe and craft market at The Spark Space!
Bethesda Methodist Church on Church Road has come out of its Covid hibernation and reinvented itself as a community-centric space for locals. Its flagship event is the community cafe and market on the second Saturday of every month.
The Spark Space is the new name for Bethesda methodist church, based at 138a Church Road. It's a great space available for community hire and events, and they have their own monthly cafe and market as well.
"This building was actually the Sunday School, back in the day," says Niall Briggs, who set up and runs the community cafe. "The main church is long gone, but this space is huge and offers so much opportunity."
During Covid, like many organisations, Bethesda's doors remained shut. But now they are keen to reactivate the space.
"I think our local community needs spaces like these more than ever," says Niall. "Developers are moving in, buying up old halls and of course, the Redfield Cinema. The Spark Space offers a chance for community-led activities that really have local people at the heart."
The Community Cafe has been made possible by a Warm Spaces grant, and the Craft Market is operated by Better Events. Stalls are just £15 and each market offers free children's activities too. And don't forget the delicious cake, coffee, and dry bar!
